What is the right way to respond when someone praises us? Is saying, “I was just doing my job” really an expression of humility?

In this episode, Seuseungnim explains that praise is a form of energy given to us by another person. When we receive it, our first response should be simple and sincere: “Thank you.”

True humility does not mean denying our accomplishments or pretending that what we did was insignificant. It means recognizing that we never accomplish anything entirely on our own. Our coworkers, team members, opportunities, and environment all contribute to what we are able to achieve.

Seuseungnim also explains why the words of gratitude themselves are not enough. Saying, “It was all thanks to everyone,” has little meaning if we are simply repeating what sounds humble. Our words carry their proper energy when they arise from genuine understanding and sincerity.

This teaching reveals the deeper relationship between gratitude, humility, recognition, and the energy we exchange with others—and why sincerely appreciating those who helped us creates the conditions for even greater growth.
